Heaven can wait I’m busy
Author’s notes

What I have written is a personal narrative of the situations and issues that I experienced, and the decisions that I made during the preparationperiod up to departure day and the journey around the world, also how it affected me personally. The events all happened as described, although on occasion I have used a little creative writing to reflect my personal mood at the time. The chronology and geography is correct to the best of my knowledge and according to my notes I made as I travelled. It is all about what I personally saw, heard and experienced, therefore, so as not to be restricted or compromised in any way, I have decided to tell the story the way it happened. I have not excluded myself from personal criticism or credit for the way I conducted myself or for the way I held everything together as we travelled. I will be open and to the point when explaining some of the situations and clashes of personalities caused when people are confined together for long periods and travelling to a strict schedule. However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who took part and accompanied me at various times as road crew, Roland Spencer, Keith Twyford, Graham Higgins, Mike Bailey, Glyn Maher and Roger Winkworth for their support throughout the preparation and the journey itself, particularly when compromises had to be made to keep us on track or when the going got difficult.  I would like to give a special thank you to Alan Butler and Charles Scott who, due to health issues, could not participate as originally planned.

To help guide you through the story I have divided it into three parts.
1. My history and what makes me tick, the motivation to drive around the world
2. Conception, Preparation and Departure, March 31st 2013
3. No turning back, the journey around the world

I am indebted to my wife, Vi, and our family for their support, particularly my daughter Carole who comforted and supported Vi in my absence. I apologise to everyone for any distress caused as a result of my quest to drive around the world. In memory of our son Lee, who passed away and left us for another place on 4th June 2008, his memory was my constant travelling companion. I would like to thank my very good friend, Keith Rimmer, he made sure we had the best website and was always there when I needed a chat. Very special thanks to David Ellery, Viewpoint Productions and Maureen Wycherley for her support and who managed to keep me pointing in the right direction. Also Alun Parry, Suzuki G.B. for believing in me and for the support I received from Suzuki worldwide. To Guy Foster, Newman’s Suzuki, Glen Findley and Claire Smith, Novotel Southampton, and my friends, Robert Rickman, Trevor Strickland, Brian Shearsby, Julian Clegg of Julian’s people B.B.C. Radio Solent and many others who helped me, I would like to say a very big thank you
